Daily Sketches Weeks 2 – 3

Collage of daily sketches 8 - 21

It has been nearly a month since I started my “daily sketches” routine. It has proven to be a major boon to my artistic output, and a source of inspiration when I’m in a creative slump. As someone who is highly creative and prone to procrastination, I can sometimes find myself falling into a pattern of not creating art, then beating myself up over it. This cycle is a downwards spiral, only stopped when I find it in me to sit down and make the art I intended to make. By forcing myself to create a sketch every day, I push past the first barrier, which is doing something. Additionally, when I’m feeling down about my creative output, it’s encouraging to go through my old artwork and remind myself of what I’ve already achieved.

This is more than just an intellectual exercise for me. I have always found myself ill-suited to the 9-5 lifestyle, and have therefore endeavored to carve out my own existence. By doing so, I survive by the fruits of my own labor. Any strategies that help me to consistently create help me to survive, and to create more and better things in the future.

Even the sketches themselves have generated some revenue. I recently sold my first one, Daily Sketch #9 – Rooted Thoughts. Congratulations to Phigmint, the first owner of a Freedan Daily Sketch NFT, and thanks for the vote of confidence!
